Somehow I got talked to into running for the local water board and I was elected. I was surprised to find that I had to swear an oath,"I will faithfully discharge all the duties....SO HELP ME GOD.”. I was really taken aback. I had to sit and ponder this. Honesty is important to me. I don’t believe in God in the traditional sense but I didn’t want to rock the boat. My intention in volunteering was to have safe and dependable water. I finally decided that for me GOD is a code word for all that is good in the universe.
