Unplugged

Cape Lookout State Park

Lauren and I just returned from a camping trip on the Oregon coast. It was great, no newspapers, no internet and if it weren't for tides, no watches either; and I wonder, who exactly calculates the tide tables anyway, and how do they?

We walked on the beach for miles. Sora ran on the beach for many more miles chasing seagulls. We watched pelicans flying along in their bracelet strand formations. The Oregon coast is so beautiful and just hearing the sound of the waves puts me into a very mellow frame of mind. In fact, I think the other folks felt the same. Everyone would go down to the beach and watch the sunset, and take pictures, of the sunset of themselves.

Having fun with digi-camera

On Saturday, the only foggy day, we hiked out to Cape Lookout. In 1943 a B17 bomber crashed here in the fog, probably just like the fog that was there for our hike. It was very interesting experience how on one side of the hill it would be dry and on the other very windy and wet. There was tame pigeon at the lookout at end of the trail and Sora almost bolted and chased it off the cliff. We didn't stay long.

Spooky trees whispering of...

Long way down there.

I was reluctant to turn my computer on. Being unplugged was great.

Jw, glad that you enjoyed your trip.  Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos. They make me want to experience the Oregon coast.  Who knows?  Maybe next year I'll be able to visit Oregon and at the same time, go to the Gaia meet-up.

These are grand Janine! Thanks for sharing them, pictures and memories!

I know about the reluctance to turn on ones computer after time away, there is beauty in solitude!

Big hugs,
Aley

Ever since I saw pictures of Oregon's beauty, I”ve wanted to go there; and perhaps one day I will be there. But till then, thank you, JW, for plugging in again!
And share that liquid bronze sunset!

It has been a pleasure sharing this place that has so much magic for me. I'd love to be able to share it in the flesh but for now virtual sharing will have to suffice.

Peri,
I should let you know that because you'd made a comment in one of your blogs about getting up early to collect sand dollars before the seagulls, we had to do that as well. I mentioned this to Lauren and even though she is a teenager who loves to sleep late, she roused me out of bed early to go out and comb the beach for them. We actually found a couple after a very longggg walk down the beach. Thanks for the tip. ;)

Janine,

Loved the photo of the old forest in the fog.

What a beautiful place - the beach and the forest - to spend some time just Being ! ! !
